Happy Friday!
This week //
It’s been years since I’ve seen the Durham Bulls, our local minor league team, but this week I went to a game with a big group of family and friends. The Bulls lost, but tallboys were $5 and our friend’s son took home a foul ball, so it was a great night for us.1
Enjoying + link love //
I used to read Erin Loechner’s blog all the time, and loved the Gaskovskis’ interview with her about her new book and changing views on having an internet presence.
I belatedly finished my Lord of the Rings trilogy reread this week, and was struck by this post on the nature of evil in Middle Earth: “The essence of evil in Middle-earth centers around selfishness, the desire to be ‘king of other wills,’ the intense protection of ego to subordination of all else, and the ‘lack of imaginative sympathy’ which is usually the fatal flaw by which this evil is ultimately vanquished.”
Jen Pollack Michel’s reflection on holy desire is worth reading multiple times.
“With writing, sometimes the friction is the point.”
Enjoyed sitting down and reading all five short stories in Celine Nguyen’s round-up.

Looking ahead //
I have scattered plans across the week (dinner with an old friend, a Juneteenth showing of Do the Right Thing), but honestly, I’m most excited about getting the A/C in my car fixed. I cannot wait to have cool air during these 90+ degree days.
Relatedly, the Bull Durham house is on sale, if anyone has $1.6 million lying around.
Little Electric Chicken Heart!!! It's been a minute since I listened to that. Glad you found it. haha My husband and I have fond memories listening to those tunes, living in Columbia, Missouri as newlyweds and expecting our first child.
